چکیده
In this paper—as a case study—we present systematic study of gender bias in machine translation with Google Translate. We translated sentences containing names occupations from Hungarian, language gender-neutral pronouns, into English. Our aim was to fair measure for by comparing the translations real-world oriented non-biased translator. When assessing bias, we used following reference points: (1) distribution men and women among both source target countries, as well (2) results Hungarian survey that examined if certain jobs are generally perceived feminine or masculine. also studied how expanding adjectives referring affects pronouns. As result, found against genders, but biased much more frequent. Translations closer our perception than objective occupational statistics. Finally, have greater effect on adjectives.

Reference Bias in Monolingual Machine Translation Evaluation
In the translation industry, human translations are assessed by comparison with the source texts. In the Machine Translation (MT) research community, however, it is a common practice to perform quality assessment using a reference translation instead of the source text. In this paper we show that this practice has a serious issue – annotators are strongly biased by the reference translation pro...
متن کاملMachine Translation for Human Translators
While machine translation is sometimes sufficient for conveying information across language barriers, many scenarios still require precise human-quality translation that MT is currently unable to deliver. Governments and international organizations such as the United Nations require accurate translations of content dealing with complex geopolitical issues. Community-driven projects such as Wiki...

In this opinion paper, we describe our research work on machine translation evaluation approaches that include mechanisms for human feedback and are designed to allow partial adaptation of the translation models which are being evaluated. متن کاملInteractive Assistance to Human Translators using Statistical Machine Translation Methods
We investigate novel types of assistance for human translators, based on statistical machine translation methods. We developed Caitra, a tool that makes suggestions for sentence completion, shows word and phrase translation options, and allows postediting of machine translation output. A user study validates the types of assistance and provides insight into the human translation process.
متن کاملGender Issues in Machine Translation
Along with the growing need for intercultural and translingual communication in an increasingly globalized world, machine translation (MT) becomes more and more important both in assisting language professionals in their daily work and in helping non-professionals understand and create texts in foreign languages. Based on the frequent assumption that it is machine translation's aim to replace h...
